Fall Brings New Beginnings
Summer came and went before we even realized it. As Ames grows busier and store lines stretch longer, clear that back-to-school season is upon us. As fall approaches, let’s take a moment to reflect on the needs and the goals of our mission for the cooler days ahead.
Our ministry is dedicated to serving our guests and fostering community. This summer, our monthly guest count is approaching 40, the maximum allowed by our special use permit. As more people join our afternoon hospitality, our needs have evolved.
To better serve our friends, both on the streets and in our home, we’ve welcomed the Homeless Outreach Support Team (HOST) into our mission. This innovative partnership is already inspiring conversations about how nonprofits, law enforcement, and healthcare can unite to transform lives and build a stronger, more compassionate community. We now provide a continuum of care to our residents who need it most.
As we grow and adapt, we will continue to rely on the strength, diversity, and generosity of our community to keep our radical hospitality mission focused on what Dorothy Day articulated during the early Catholic Worker movement of the 1930s.
Tickets Are Now Available
Flannel & Friends is Ames Romero House’s annual fall fundraiser, bringing together friends, supporters, businesses, and community members for an evening of fellowship, great food, entertainment, and generosity in support of our mission. Held at The Rustic Rose Barn in Roland, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a cool fall evening in casual attire while celebrating another unforgettable year with our community of friends.
At the event we will host a fishing tournament before dinner, have hayrack rides, live music, silent and live auctions, and a delicious dinner by Babe’s Steakhouse of Radcliffe.
With tickets at only $15 per adult, $10 for students, and children under 12 free, we want to see as many of you as possible!

Sunday Vespers Social CLub
We held our initial Sunday Vespers Social Club in late August. The Sunday Vespers Social Club addresses the need for strong community, condensing it into an evening of prayer and fellowship. Starting at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays during the school year, evening prayer and dinner are the focal points, with opportunities for leaders in our religious community to speak and lead small-group
discussions.
We ask our community to pray for young adults in our area to find spiritual communion and embrace the call to evangelization. We also welcome volunteers who are willing to provide a meal or share their time and talents as the Lord inspires. If you know any young adults, whether undergraduates, graduate students, working professionals, or others, invite them to join us at the Yellow House at 709 Clark Avenue. Our doors open at 5:30 p.m. hospitality. On July 25, we were pleased to welcome visits from the Ames mayor, several city council members, representatives from the city manager’s office, Story County commissioners, and a great turnout of local community members who came to view our completed home, designed to assist local citizens in need.
